Exercises
Reviewing your games shows where you went wrong. Training on exercises works the other way round: seeing the move before you play it. The Exercises module puts a position in front of you, asks one question — what do you play here? — and checks the answer.
It is the tactical counterpart to repertoire training: the same spaced-repetition machinery, applied to isolated positions instead of opening lines.
What ships with it: nothing
Régence comes with no exercises at all. That would be no gift: the positions that make you better are the ones matching your level and your weaknesses. The module works on your positions, from three sources:
- an exercise file you already own, imported as a set;
- a position you compose in the editor, when you want to pin down a specific motif;
- a position met in a game, captured in one gesture while reviewing.
Building your sets covers all three.
Sets, not a list
Exercises are organised into sets — one per theme, per session, per source, as you like. This is not a filing detail: it is the unit of work. You do not train on “all your exercises”, you work a set, in blocks of ten.
Each set shows its progress, each exercise carries its state:
| State | What it means |
|---|---|
| Grey | Never attempted |
| Orange | Due — spaced repetition is bringing it back |
| Green | Mastered, for now |
