PGN & FEN formats

Régence speaks chess’s two standard languages: PGN (games and their move trees) and FEN (a single position). No proprietary format — your data stays readable by any tool, forever.

PGN — reading

SourceDetail
File (Cmd + O, drag and drop, Import menu)One or several games per file — a multi-game file imports whole
Game URLLichess and chess.com (Cmd + Option + O)
Account archivesFull monthly import, clocks included
StudiesLichess studies and PGN files, chapters included

Headers (players, Elo, result, ECO…), variations, {…} comments and !? annotations are preserved — including custom starting positions (“from position” games, exercises).

PGN — writing

ExportContent
Copy the PGN (Cmd + Shift + C)The current game, tree and comments included — ready to paste anywhere
Save as… (Cmd + Shift + S)The game’s PGN file
Export with analysis… (Cmd + Shift + E)The PGN enriched with the analysis: per-move evaluations and best lines as comments — readable by any standard software
StudiesOne study, a selection or a whole folder as one file — re-importable anywhere

FEN — positions

GestureUse
Copy the FEN (Cmd + Shift + F)The displayed position, on one line — for a forum, an article, another program
The position editorBuild a position piece by piece, or by pasting a FEN — the starting point of a study

Exporting a position as an image

Beyond text, Régence exports any position as a PNG image — for a lesson, an article, a message. The diagram uses your board theme and the current orientation (if the board is flipped, so is the image).

GestureResult
File > Export > Copy the position as an imageThe diagram to the clipboard — paste it straight into a chat, an email, a document
File > Export > Save the position as an image…A dated PNG file, on disk
Copy as image, in the position editorThe diagram of the position being built

The PDF report’s diagrams use the same rendering.
