FAQ & troubleshooting

License and trial

How does the trial work? 7 days, every feature, up to 10 full game analyses per day. No account, no card. When it ends, nothing disappears — the app waits for a license to resume analyses.

How many Macs per license? Two. To change machines: deactivate the license on the old one from the license window, activate it on the new one.

I lost my license key. It’s in the purchase email. Can’t find it? A message to contact@regence.app is enough.

Can I get a refund? Yes — 30-day guarantee, full refund with no questions asked, with a single email.

Updates

How do updates work? Automatically: at launch, Régence offers the new version when one exists — one click installs. They’re included in the license, and the changelog is public.

Data

Where are my games and studies? On your Mac, in the app’s standard container. Settings > Storage opens the folder and exports a full backup.

How do I migrate to a new Mac? A backup exported from the old one, restored on the new — analyses included. Then deactivate/reactivate the license.

Does Régence send my games anywhere? No. Analysis runs locally; your games never leave your Mac. The only network requests: importing from Lichess/chess.com, theory lookups (explorer, position by position), license checks and updates. Full detail: privacy.

Analysis

Analysis is slow / my Mac is blowing air. That’s the Quiet / Performance setting: Quiet (default) favors silence, Performance speed. During a big batch, Performance + lid open remains the most effective.

A game shows “Waiting” and doesn’t move. The analysis queue processes one game at a time — Cmd + Shift + Q shows the run order. Analyzing the open game from the board puts it at the front.
