Reviewing a game

Once a game’s analysis is done, Régence has produced four things: a classification of every move, an accuracy for each side, an evaluation graph that tells the story of the game, and the engine’s best lines at every position. This chapter teaches how to read each of them — then how to go further: exploring variations, annotating, comparing with theory and with your own library.

The pages follow the natural order of a review:

  1. Reading the classification — what the ten labels mean, from Brilliant to Blunder.
  2. The evaluation graph — spotting the swings and the decisive moment.
  3. The engine lines — what should have been played, and why.
  4. Preview mode — the expected continuation, projected as ghosts on the board.
  5. Variations and annotations — digging into your own ideas and keeping track.
  6. The opening explorer — the position as seen by masters, Lichess players… and your own games.
