Creating a study

File > New study… (Cmd + Shift + N) asks for a title and opens a blank board: every move played joins the tree. The other path, often more natural: File > Save as study… from an open game — the game becomes the repertoire’s backbone, to prune and enrich afterwards.

Every study carries a trained color (White or Black): it orients the board, the training and the statistics. Régence detects it on import; it can be changed anytime through the study’s context menu.

Importing from Lichess

File > Import > Study from Lichess… accepts a study URL or its identifier. Régence downloads the chapters and previews them before importing: each can be checked or unchecked, with its detected color — and a multi-chapter study becomes a study folder, one chapter per study.

Comments and variations arrive intact. Private studies become reachable once the Lichess account is connected through OAuth (Settings > Accounts).

Importing PGN files

File > Import > Studies from a PGN file… covers the rest of the world: a repertoire exported from another program, a downloaded theory file, a study shared by a friend. Same preview screen — a multi-game file splits into chapters, to select one by one.

Exporting and sharing

In the My studies hub, the context menu exports one study, the selection, or a whole folder — always as a standard PGN file, re-importable into Régence or on Lichess. It’s the exchange format: a repertoire prepared for a student, theory shared at the club, a backup before a big overhaul.
