Keyboard shortcuts
Two families: menu shortcuts (macOS conventions, fixed) and board navigation shortcuts — those remap freely in Settings > Shortcuts. Cmd + ? shows this list inside the app.
Board navigation (customizable)
| Shortcut | Action |
|---|
← / → | Previous / next move — → follows the chosen path through variations; at the end of the game, it plays the move of the line followed in Preview |
↓ / ↑ | Next / previous line within the Preview zone — otherwise, designate a continuation at a fork (→ plays it) or switch between sibling lines |
J / Shift + J | Next / previous mistake |
Cmd + → / Cmd + ← | Next / previous decisive move |
Shift + → | The Review on a faulty move — and play out in Preview the continuation designated with ↓/↑ |
Shift + ← | Step back in the projected line |
Tab / Shift + Tab | Next / previous zone of lines in Preview — engine, review, study, collection… (the zone survives moving through the game) |
Option + Tab / Option + Shift + Tab | Next / previous tree variation — even during a Preview |
Option + ↑ / Option + ↓ | Cycle the hovered engine line |
Option + ← | Previous branching point — the last position above you that offered more than one move. No effect when there is none left |
I | Hints: the best-move arrow on the board |
B | Classification badges (?!/?/??) on the piece and in the list |
Cmd + Option + + / Cmd + Option + - | Text size for moves and lines (also in the View menu, and via “Aa” in the MOVES header) |
Cmd + Option + G | Play out the line in Preview — press again to return to the real position, keeping the chosen line |
Escape | Return to the real position; a second Escape releases Preview (and leaves the current mode) |
With the mouse, available continuations can also be played by clicking the destination square of their arrow on the board. And for a → that pauses at every junction, the Stop at forks option (Settings > Analysis, off by default) opens a menu of continuations: ↑/↓ to choose, ↩ or → to play, Escape to pass through.

Customizing
Settings > Shortcuts lists every navigation action with its current shortcut: click, press the new combination, done. Reader mode follows the same custom shortcuts.
